Heraklion Airport is the main airport for
the Greek island of Crete and handles about
5.5 million passengers per year. It also goes
by the name of Heraklion International Airport,
"Nikos Kazantzakis" in honour of
a Greek 20th century writer and philosopher
who was born locally. The airport is situated
on the eastern outskirts of the town of Heraklion
